Gag bit, single-jointed, stainless steel, 13.5 cm
The side-branch bit—as the name suggests—is characterized by its sturdy side branches. These side branches offer various advantages and have a specific effect on the horse. The shanks exert lateral pressure on the horse’s cheeks. This aids in lateral guidance and containment of the horse, which is particularly helpful when training young horses. They also provide the rider with more stable control and help maintain a consistent connection with the horse’s mouth.
Since the cheekpieces stabilize the bit, pressure on the horse’s mouth can be distributed more evenly and gently. This promotes gentler communication between rider and horse and can help the horse accept the bit more readily and move more relaxed.
The pressure on the outside of the bit supports flexion and makes it easier for the horse to understand the rider’s aids.
The single-jointed mouthpiece sits more calmly in the mouth than a double-jointed mouthpiece and distributes the pressure across the horse’s jaw; the center joint reduces pressure on the tongue. The shanks provide clear lateral stabilization and guidance and ensure that the bit remains in a stable position in the horse’s mouth. Thanks to the small snaffle rings, the action of this bit is more direct.
