The belly bit is known for its stable position in the horse’s mouth. The side shanks ensure that the bit sits calmly and evenly, resulting in a consistent connection between the rider’s hand and the horse. When the reins are taken up, the belly bit tilts and exerts pressure toward the corners of the mouth, which can help the horse sit up straighter.
