Pro Senior, 18 kg

Horses and ponies aged 26 or 27 and older have great difficulty chewing coarse hay and straw. If their teeth are in very poor condition, this can sometimes even become impossible. Such horses begin to chew hay and swallow the saliva and digestive juices. The “soaked-out” crude fiber is spat out in clumps. This is a natural defense mechanism in older horses that can no longer break down the crude fiber components to a maximum length of 5–15 mm on their own. If fibers that are too long were swallowed, it would result in painful—if not fatal—impaction or colic.

In ProSenior, extrusion technology breaks down the crude fiber components so that they are easy for older horses to chew and “swallow”—without the risk of colic—while remaining highly digestible. With a starch content of 3.6%, we can classify ProSenior as a low-glycemic feed. ProSenior is pressed into fibrous chips measuring 1 to 3 cm in size. ProSenior can be fed dry to stimulate salivation during chewing. Only for older horses—and those that are sometimes “reluctant to drink”—can ProSenior be soaked 1:1 with water and fed wet. This helps ensure they take in plenty of water.

There are other reasons to feed ProSenior. Protein-rich roughage, such as spring grass or haylage, can be optimally balanced with ProSenior, which is low in protein and high in crude fiber. Hasty eaters should have ProSenior mixed with their concentrate, which helps them eat more calmly. This significantly extends feeding time.
