(lat. Betula Pendula)
From time immemorial, the birch has been considered a sacred tree, symbolising the virgin goddess for the fertility festivals in spring. Even today, maypoles are erected in villages on the first of May and spring is celebrated.
Presumably, the assignment of the birch as a virgin is due to the white bark, which is very tender and silky in young birches.
In medicine, the leaves of the birch are mainly used in the kidney-bladder area and for skin and hair
Birch leaves have strong diuretic properties.
