Cracks in the hoof, old nail holes and a weakened structure of the hoof wall allow microbes to invade, resulting in crumbling hoof walls or white line disease. Thrush is a bacterial infection of the sole and frog, usually in a moist environment.
Many commercially available hoof care products contain chemicals that denature the substance of the hoof and destroy its protective mechanisms. Magnesium and vitamin E play an important role in horse nutrition. Magnesium is essential for muscle function, nerve transmission and energy metabolism. A deficiency can lead to muscle cramps, nervousness and loss of performance. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that protects cells from oxidative stress and supports the immune system. It also contributes to muscle and nerve health.In combination, magnesium and vitamin E can improve muscle health and performance in horses. This supplement is particularly useful for sport horses and older animals to prevent muscle tension and promote general well-being.

Magnesium and vitamin E play an important role for the muscles and nervous system. Horses with muscular problems such as tying up/PSSM/SER, those that perform a lot (sport, breeding) or those that only get a little fresh grass have an increased need for vitamin E. Fresh grass is the best source of vitamin E. In hay, the content drops by 70% just one week after cutting. Cereals generally contain very little vitamin E. We only use natural vitamin E (d-alpha-tocopherol) in all our products. The much cheaper synthetic vitamin E (dl-alpha-tocopherol) is based on petroleum (crude oil) and is not particularly well absorbed by horses. Natural vitamin E (d-alpha-tocopherol), on the other hand, comes from plants and is 2-3 times more readily available to the horse than synthetic vitamin E. If available, natural vitamin E is normally labelled as such. If it simply says vitamin E preparation or dl-alpha-tocopherol, it is certainly of artificial origin. Magnesium is often called the "salt of inner peace". If there is a deficiency, this is often shown by fidgety behaviour. Magnesium quickly calms the central nervous system. It dampens the stress-induced over-excited transmission of nerve impulses. It counteracts fidgetiness and restlessness and turns the nerves back into strong, resilient nerves.
